Lighting Kits for new powersports engine coming soon. ;D
So..............if you can wait a little......I will have a lighting kit on EBAY that fits the new engines and is wired for Rupp's. ( HS40, HS50, HS35 powersport engines). That way you can have a new engine that fits and has lights. My kit uses a standard Tecumseh lighting coil from larger engines to get the amps needed to run headlight, tail light and brake light.
The problem was figuring out what magnets to use to get the typical dimming at idle that the Rupp's have. The magents I found have to be cut in half, which is messy. Then I have to clean the magnets and weight them to get a balanced set. (here's where there is a motivation issue....who likes to clean...). Also, the connector is no longer made, so I had to create one that met my standards. It plugs right in and has heat shrink tubing to keep the mud out. (if you have an old one from a burnt out coil, I will be willing to wire it in instead)
My son's Hustler's HS40 was the guinea pig for the concept (minus the three prong connector). It's been running for a year now with no problems. But, his is not a Powersport engine....and is not an Roadster. So, with a tiny bit of coaxing, WFrutchey offered his son's R2 with a HS40 powersport engine to experiment on. It ran great at the minibike reunion. So my idea works....
With all my son's summer sports, I think it may be August or Sept. (2005) timeframe before the I get another kit together. I want to do an Ebay sale first to see what people will pay for the kit. I have enough stator's to do four right now. Just have to type up some instructions and... cut and wieght magnets. the reserve will be set at my cost.
Thanks go out to WFr4utchey for letting me take pictures.
