Bill, there is no belt adjustment on the TC assy. Make sure you have the correct length belt that isn't oil contaminated. There are a few other things that can cause belt slippage even with a good belt. Excessively worn pulley halveson the frt or rear, the frt. outer pulley half will not slide freely on its sleeve, or if the rear (jackshaft) pulley spring is broken or out of place causing to no tension on the rear pulley halves.

the belt will slip if it gets wet. I would have to check the # to see if correct. It should just be a bit long so it just missed hitting the center of the frt pullies when you squeeze the sides of the belt to make it run straight.
Correct plug for hs-50 is CJ-8 Champion

"go Kart Supply" has good info on adjustments. see www.gokartsupply.com/tcbelts.htm Their prices are so-so. The info is very helpful for adjustments. Also, you have limited adjustment by moving motor front or back in the slotted mounting holes. That 1/8" to 3/16" gap is a good guide for both Rupp and Comet clutches. (see the pictures at their website). It's best to have clutch apart to do this adj'mnt. Just be careful pullies are aligned properly when moving the motor. I captured a image to show this. see: www.users.fast.net/~tommack/symdim.gif (shows comet driver, but idea is same) It looks odd but the idea is as the driven "moving" face moves towards frame and the belt slides down the fixed face (also closer to the frame), the "moving" clutch face pushes the belt higher on the fixed face and closer to the engine, thus keeping alignment. On a 1970 Roadster the bolt that tightens the T/C to the engine shaft, Should that be tightened all the way down? Seems like it draws it to tight. If not how do you know how tight to make it?
