I just bought a minibike, thought to be a rupp.
I'll try to decribe it, I can't figure out what type it is, can you?
If it is not collectable, I may chop and modify,. i can't find any pictures exactly like it on the web anywhere.
It is really old, probably pre 1975, and has 6" rupp turbine style aluminum wheels and rotten 14" rupp trial tires.
The front fork has internal springs.
The handlebars are attached to the fork with 3 u-bolt shaped threadrod pieces. The frame is all tubular steel except that the section from the seat to the front fork is stamped steel, very unusual. All frame welds are very professional in appearance. The engine mount is slanted forward at about 15 degrees and has a big slot on the pto side of the plate as well as one hole on each side. The rear tire is not suspended and bolts to mounting flanges that are mounted to the outward side of the tube frame. The tube frame extends straight up from the rear wheel to the seat. The seat perimeter is surrounded by tube steel and the back slants upwards to make like a handle. The seat perimeter has about 8 or 10 snaps all around it but the cushion and cover are missing. It appears that there might have been a piece of sheet metal welded in to form the seat bottom, but has since been removed. The back of the seat has a strip of sheet metal welded in. There also appears to be a mount under the seat, above the tire, for either a fender or license plate or something. The bike came with a 3.5 tecumseh with a centrifugal clutch, and I doubt the engine is original since the spark plug cap touches the frame in front of the seat and the carb doesn't have a slant intake. the rear tire has a large drum extension for a strap brake drum, which I think was a custom job since ithe metalwork is of much poorer quality than the rest of the bike. The sprocket is a ring with 6 bolts that appears to be for #35 chain.
I have read about the rupp rascal in this commonly seen definition of minibike: "A Mini-Bike is a two-wheeled motorized vehicle which is not a moped, motor-scooter, mini-cycle, cross-over, or a full-sized motorcycle and although is typically intended for off-road use, it may be designed for light duty/around the neighborhood use, but could never be street-legal. Said vehicle would typically have a rigid suspension but may be partially or fully suspended. A Mini-Bike is engineered for the young rider. Engine horsepower shall range from 2hp to 8hp." An example of a Mini-Bike is the Rupp Rascal. But I cannot find a picture. What is it???
