Whelp,
The frame on the Rupp I picked up is bent. To make a long story short, the engine mount is not in perfect alignment with the front fork..the downtube skews to the right. Clearly the bike was in an accident before as evidenced by all the welds and gussets near the front fork tube.
Anyway, to alleviate the problem, I had to unweld the downtube from the engine mount, and finally cut the downtube about 2-3 inches below the fork tube (where the front forks bolt to the frame). I'd send a picture but I'm tied up now.
I need to know the distance from the bottom of the fork tube on the frame, to the top (or bottom) of the engine mounting plate. Can someone measure this for me? Put your tape measure alongside the downtube, one end touching the bottom of the fork tube, and put a ruler on the bottom of the engine plate such that the ruler intersects your tape measure. I have a 1970 Roadster/Enduro. Thanks alot!

All, Sent Denis photo's and measurements. He sounds like he's got it under control.
Just a FYI, the down tube is at an angle under the engine mounting plate. Not sure why. best guess is for lateral (side to side) flex control.
