Hi,I have an SS5 that my son and I are working on and we have installed a 5 horse tecumseh engine that originaly came from sears,I dont know what its off of,I am just wondering with the engine tilted forward, should I put the specified amount of oil in it or more?Did Rupp do anything different with the oiling system on the original engines? Also what about the govenor?I had to make an adapter flange to get the float type carb level and a friend says I should try to hook up the govenor as it may over rev if we are not careful. Any hints or ideas about this? Thanx!!

Use 22-23oz. of 30wt oil. Rupp used a dipstick for proper oil level on the angle mounted motors. You won't have any oiling problems with that amount of oil.
The little motors were designed for 3600 rpm max. Any time the govenor isn't used and engine is ran over 3600 rpm there is a chance of internal parts failures. If engine hasn't been totally reconditioned on inside, no govenor can put it to an early grave compared to its life with an operational govenor. Without a govenor and good tune and internal conditions the motor can rev in the mid 4000 range with a stock carb. We all want to go as fast as possible, especially as kids. If your boy has a level head on his shoulders and knows when he is abusing the motor and will let off the throttle that will most definitely help with motor life.

Are you sure about that much oil in the crankcase for an H50? Where did you get that information?

Im betting streetrodder is using an HS50 due to the H50 being physically too large to fit into the engine area of an SS5 frame.
