Hey All, ;D
I need some more help! I am trying to dis-assy my front forks and they will not come apart!! They will not even compress for that matter! I have taken the forks off of the frame and the bolts have been removed from the top of the forks on either fork leg. I can see the springs inside the tubes!
The fork legs on either side will not turn or compress! Any tips or tricks to get these things to separate?? I sprayed a whole bunch of liquid wrench down the bolt holes on both sides in the hope that this would loosen up the forks!
On a different note I just got the bushings out of the rear swingarm!! so that I can put some new ones in after the swingarm gets powder coated!!
later Super

Brandt, I'm having the same problem. Mine won't compress and I haven't tried to get them apart yet but I know it is going to be a problem. What was the 'tip' that you gave the other guy?

Well the forks are finally back from the powder coater and all put back together!!
Hey Rick,
I was given a tip by a fellow board member to put them in a BBQ grill so that the insides would just begin to melt so that you can pull the fork legs out. Now this is going to make a mess and I said all kinds of bad words afterwards but they are now spotless and back together. After I got the pieces to separate I let them cool off and used a large screwdriver to get the left over stuff out of the insides of the fork bodies. If you have access to a torch you could also just burn the stuff out. (A burns-o-matic will not work I tried hehe)
Then get one of those 60 grit flappy sanding drums that you put in a drill motor, you also need a 6-8" drill bit extension that you can get at any hardware store so that you can sand the insides of the forks bodies clean.
You also need to realize that this process will RUIN!! the paint on the forks!! I did not care since I was going to have everything re-powder coated
Make sure that you order the new plastic liners and some of the black seals that go on the bottom of the legs!
Good Luck Super

I have a rupp and I am trying to figure out what year it is so that I can buy parts. Also, the swingarm bushing is shot on my bike and I was wondering if anyone knew how to get it out so I can replace it. Any help is appreciated

Don't use a torch! The 71 up models are chrome moly tubing and chrome moly does not like concentrated heat. That is why a slow even heating is needed.....so as not to weaken the triple tree. I have the fork bushings and fork boots if needed. The fork boots can be slid off before any heating is done
