Well geez... where do I begin.... First off... I'm a HUGE noob to Rupp's even though I've always wanted one so bear with me please. I've finally gotten my hands on an old Rupp that was sitting in a shed for a while. <giddy ;D> No seat... electronics shot... aftermarket 3hp Briggs&Stratton... yada yada yada... and after seeing some of the "before" pics around the net, this one is VERY capable of being restored. I figured it be a great project this winter for my 9yr old son and I. Anyway.... I'm unsure and the year and model of this Rupp. I know it's a Rupp because the serial number is still on the seat mounting plate. So I have a few questions.... 1. Are there any distinguishing features that define each model from the rest? 2. Is there a way define the year and model from the serial #.. much like a VIN? 3. Looking for the most reputable place to get parts. I've seen WWW.JL-SALES.COM out there... is there anywhere else. 4. Funding is not an issue for this restore as I'm going to make it happen regardless, but from other past experiences, what have other people put into their Rupp's? (This will decide whether or not the son get's it! ;D) Being a big web guy, I plan on documenting this entire restore from start to finish, step by step, on the web. This means I should have "before" pics up buy no later than this weekend so if anyone could possibly lend a hand in ID'ing the year and model of the bike, that would be great. Rob G.

I just reclaimed my best childhood friend, a 1972 RUPP ROADSTER II. It spent the last 20 years in a shed collecting dust & rust. I plan to spend this winter restoring it (at least to operational) with my 5 yo son. For any advice on parts please respond with suppliers or part subschestutes. Thanks, James from Des Moines

Rob, a few answers and we can figure out what you have.
Do you have 6", 10" 12" wheels/tires spoked rims, cast alum rims or steel slotted rims?

This hog has 12" spoked wheels on it.
To me.. this narrow's it down to a BW, Roadster, or Enduro.
I've also noticed that I have slots in the forks to mount a headlight assembly.
Doesn't that narrow it down to a Roadster or Enduro?
Again.... I'll have pics up this weekend.

Rob, The black frame, purple rear fender, 12" spoked wheels, and wiring harness that are seen on your bike would indicate that it is a 1972 Roadster2. The headlight assembly and correct Tecumseh HS40 engine are obviously missing, but can be found in the land of ebay to help restore your bike back to original. I have a '72 Roadster2 in this same color scheme that I recently finished a detailed restoration on over the Summer. The black & purple with all the chrome was one of Rupp's nicest looking bikes. Good luck in your restoration! ;D
