Carb Problem

I have a 71 Hustler and I am just about done with the restore, but my carb is leaking out of a hole in the left side above and aft of the slow speed adjustment screw! It is a float carb and is the factory piece for the bike. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to the reason that this happens.

Hello Dennis
I would say that you need to rebuild your carb
The hole that the gas is leaking out of is a vent.
you can get a kit at most lawn mower repair shops the carry Tecumseh parts
It will have all the parts you need I would buy a new float also.
there is one trick to replacing the needle seat for the float, with the carb disassembled use a 80 psi air to remove the seat by blowing in the gas inlet this will pop out the old one!! when you push the new one in make sure that the flat side is down and the side with ridge is up (towards the float) set the float level with the carb upside down and you should be good. needle setting are 5/8 on the low speed and 1 1/2 on the high speed.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just had a re-build kit put in the stock carb so maybe something is a miss with what was put back in or the manner that it was installed. Anyways I will take the carb back off this weekend and give it a once over.

Well I took the bottom off of the carb today and it looked like the float was rubbing up against something inside so I got it all re-aligned and put it all back together and it fixed the leaking problem that I had.

Next up was to try and start it up!! It started after a couple of pulls YEAH!!! Thanks for all of the help! I am sure that the neighborhood will never be the same!!
