Well, I recently acquired a '71? Enduro. It wouldn't idle right, but with a new carburetor, it runs great. As many of you, it seems that I've been bit with the Rupp bug, and would like to begin restoring this. I've been reading and researching all that I can about this little bike, and have come to a question that is probably pretty simple, but I'd like to have cleared up. I read a post a bit earlier in this board that a guy was talking about the difference between the Rupp clutch and the Comet clutch. Now I'm wondering what the distinguishable differences between them are, as there is currently no converter cover for it, and I'm looking at buying one. Any help or info would be great. Thanks.

I'm wondering if someone is able to give somewhat of an idea where to start on setting a carb on an HS-40. I'm not sure if this is an old style carb or a newer unit. It has an adjuster screw dead bottom of the float area. Also has one for the throttle. Then midway on left side of carb is one with a screw on it for tension. This one seems to be set all the way in where it bottoms out. Some reason that doesn't seem right to me. Any adjusting bringing it out and the motor doesn't seem to want to idle well. And I'm not sure who or where to go to ask. All the shops around me just want me to bring it in so they can look at it. I was hoping there was someone here who could let the big secret out of the bag. I would have thought it had been covered in this forum before? Another problem I seem to be having is my torque convertor seems to be grabby. It feels as though it kicks in hard, and at times seems to kick in and release while keeping motor at the same rpm. Trying to adjust the carb it kept grab/release........then at times just grab- hard and start to squeel the belt. Not sure if everything is working proper in it or not. Looked ok, but I'm not an expert on what to look for that would be wrong. Course maybe it's just the way the carb is out of adjustment is all thats wrong.........Any ideas or where to turn would greatly be appreciated.............. Andy

After coming back here today to see if there were any replies, I see the MAJOR error is spelling. Apparently my hand slipped down a row on the keboard, but I really do know how to spell idenchesty. I hope I didn't make myself look like too much of a moron.

Comet has a smooth outer cover and says Comet on it....its made of steel. Rupp has a steel cover and aluminum pulleys

Andy Legend2, On Carb,....Bottom screw is main or high speed mixture. Side screw is low speed mixture. Factory says to have low speed at 1 turn out from all the way in. I find 1.5 to 1.75 out is a better starting spot. For the main/high speed, again start at one turn out. Get engine to idle first. Then with low spd mixture, find when it starts to miss on clock-wise turn, then find where it starts to miss counter-clock-wise. Then set to half way or just a little bit rich (counter-clock-wise). For high speed, If you try to pull out and it sort of goes blah....make hi mix richer, (CCW) 1/8 to 1/4 turn. try again. repeat if needed.
