RMT 80 Vs MX80

Hello, a couple of questions. I have just acquired an RMT 80. It is in OK condition but the lights and what not are not too hot. Was the MX 80 just a stripped down version of the RMT? In other words, could I just restore the RMT into an MX by using different decals and not putting the lights on and running gear on it? Am I missing something, I cannot find a good pic of an MX 80 on line.

Also, my RMT and most I have seen has black panels on the tank. HOWEVER, the owners manual I just bought does not and has RUPP in larger letters. Did this bike's markings start out one way and then change?

Finally, I am looking for folks with RMT parts. I have been restoring and racing Hodakas for a good while, but I am new to Rupps. Any source leads would be apprecitated.

Bob, MANY of Rupp publications are not consistant with they bikes the way they produced the bikes for sales. The MX is shown to have RMT style pipe and it came with low slung pipe. Your RMT did have the decals on the tank with the black. The MX80 is not a stripper version of the RMT. The MX80 has wheel hubs, spokes, frt shocks like an SS5, L-100. The MX 80 had same engine and even had the lighting coil,which wasn't connected to anything.

hI YA, I WILL TRY TO GET SOME PICS TO YOU. I HAVE A mx80. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING MX80'S WERE ONLY MADE IN 1975.

THEY ARE JOHN DEER GREEN WITH CHARTUSE DECALS. THE WIREING HARNESS ON MY MX80 IS ORIGONAL AND ITS THE SAME AS TEH RMT, THEY JUST DIDNT PUT THE LIGHTS ON.

I DONT HAVE TEH ORIGONAL EXHAUST FOR MINE, WISH I DID BUT I DO HAVE A WORKING HOME MADE SET UP AND THE KIDS DIG THE HECK OUTTA THIS LITTLE BIKE. SAME FUJI MOTOR AS WELL 79CC. RUNS LIKE A SCALDED CAT. )
